Why You Should Care?
You might have noticed from the previous page that the American Black Bears population is dwindling in the state of Ohio. We as a website would like to bring this thought to you. Black bears play an important role within the ecosystem with their foraging activities. Black bears play a part in the spread of seeds ,various plants and trees as they consume roots, flowers, grasses, fruits, berries, herbs, nuts and acorns. Since they are very adaptable to different types of environments, the deciduous forest benefits from the continual germination and expansion of many of its vegetation. The U. S. Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973 was put in place to Conserve and protect the endangered and threatened animal species and the ecosystems in which they live. It was signed on December 28, 1973 by Congress. The American Black Bear has been on the U. S. Endangered Species Act since it was made in 1973.

Restore
You can help to restore habitats. You could help plant cattails or plant trees. Cattails are natures filters. They filter out pollution from streams and ponds through the roots. This helps purify water and make its drinkable for the bears.
